Pseudo-Wind Perception Induced by Cross-Modal Reproduction of Thermal, Vibrotactile, Visual, and Auditory Stimuli

چکیده

Numerous wind displays have been developed to provide sensation in virtual reality applications. However, previous studies, required the production of physical using a source. To release cold or hot wind, large equipment for making air temperature changes. In this study, we propose induce pseudo-wind perception, perceiving even absence visuo-audio-haptic cross-modal effects. We audio-visual stimuli with head-mounted display and headphones, vibrotactile thermal skin belt-type devices, instead wind. found that based on measurement displacement exposed are suitable tactile also can vibro-thermal addition effective realness experience future, inducing variable types sensations will be pursued as research direction regarding perception.

Acoustic Rendering and Auditory-Visual Cross-Modal Perception and Interaction

In recent years research in the 3-Dimensional sound generation field has been primarily focussed upon new applications of spatialised sound. In the computer graphics community the use of such techniques is most commonly found being applied to virtual, immersive environments. However, the field is more varied and diverse than this and other research tackles the problem in a more complete, and co...

cross-modal plasticity in auditory and visual systems

introduction: neuro-plasticity is the neuronal system ability to modify and recover itself after the occurrence of impairment and injuries. following the abolition of a sensory modality, modifications will be applied to other modalities and their cortical function in a way that the processing of these modalities not only will happen in their own specific cortical area, but also in those areas t...

Cross-modal speech perception in adults and infants using nonspeech auditory stimuli.

Adults and infants were tested for the capacity to detect correspondences between nonspeech sounds and real vowels. The /i/ and /a/ vowels were presented in 3 different ways: auditory speech, silent visual faces articulating the vowels, or mentally imagined vowels. The nonspeech sounds were either pure tones or 3-tone complexes that isolated a single feature of the vowel without allowing the vo...

Perception of vibrotactile stimuli above 1kHz by the hearing-impaired

The upper limit of frequency sensitivity for vibrotactile stimulation of the fingers and hand is commonly accepted as 1 kHz. However, during the course of our research to develop a full-hand vibrotactile musical communication device for the hearing impaired, we repeatedly found evidence suggesting sensitivity to higher frequencies. Most of the studies on which vibrotactile sensitivity are based...

Flash illusions induced by visual, auditory, and audiovisual stimuli.

When two objects are flashed at one location in close temporal proximity in the visual periphery, an intriguing illusion occurs whereby a single flash presented concurrently at another location appears to flash twice (the visual double-flash illusion: Chatterjee et al., 2011, Wilson & Singer, 1981). Here, for the first time, we investigate the time course of the effect, and directly compare it ...
